All of us, at some point or another, need to make changes in the direction of our lives. But what happens when your feelings change? What if I told you that real change doesn’t begin with your passions or feelings at all? In Matthew 6 Jesus says, “Don’t keep hoarding for yourselves earthly treasures that can be stolen by thieves. Material wealth eventually rusts, decays, and loses its value. Instead, stockpile heavenly treasures for yourselves that cannot be stolen and will never rust, decay, or lose their value. For your heart will always pursue what you value as your treasure.” Here, Jesus is explaining to us the danger of making bad investments of ourselves – pursuing earthly treasure by focusing on getting rich, gaining power, and pursuing status or influence. Instead, he tells us to invest in “heavenly treasure” by loving others and doing good. The flip in our thinking is to stop using passions and emotion as a navigational tool. Our choices and our actions must precede our feelings. The truth is, God has some pretty big plans for your life, but it’s up to you to set the course. This pursuit comes through making small shifts and choices right where we are. It’s in these little shifts and changes that God is able to lead us where he wants us. God is in a continual process of changing us into who he made us to be, but he wants us to be participators in this process. The small choices we make right now will have a huge impact on our future, and ultimately lead to joy. The great news is that you don’t have to wait, you can begin making small shifts right now! Preparing for the fruitfulness he has called you to! Matthew 6:19-21: "Don’t keep hoarding for yourselves earthly treasures that can be stolen by thieves. Material wealth eventually rusts, decays, and loses its value. Instead, stockpile heavenly treasures for yourselves that cannot be stolen and will never rust, decay, or lose their value. For your heart will always pursue what you value as your treasure." Mark 12:30: You are to love the Lord Yahweh, your God, with every passion of your heart, with all the energy of your being, with every thought that is within you, and with all your strength. This is the great and supreme commandment. Thanks for watching In 5 Minutes. The show where we take a question or a topic and we break it down in 5 minutes or less.
