Unless you’ve been living out in the wilderness, you’ve probably noticed that there’s a lot of pressure out there to get fit and healthy. God made us 4 dimensional beings: Spiritual, Mental, Emotional, Physical. For us to be “healthy” each of these four dimensions needs to be in balance. So often we tend to focus on the other three and neglect our physical bodies. Your body is like the check engine light. Learn to listen to the body it’s telling you a lot of information. We have to pay attention to the physical signs so that we don’t crash and burn. First: Stop comparing yourself with others. This isn’t a competition, and there is no shame for where you are today. You are uniquely designed by God, and it’s important to figure out what works best for you. A really good doctor can help with this. Someone who will take the time to help you understand your own body and needs. When we say physical self care – we are talking about taking care of your physical self in three key areas: Rest, Diet, and Exercise! Start small, think manageable next steps, and plan for it. As you meet one goal, set the next! But be consistent. A 30 minute walk once a month won’t make much difference, but a 30 minute walk four times a week can change your life! The bottom line is that caring for your body is just as important as caring for the rest of your life. Being healthy and whole enables us to fulfill God’s call on our life both now and in the future. It’s investing in your now and future self by stewarding the body God has given you.
