Today's episode features Julia Rocque as a special guest, discussing the Pyramid of Influence.

The Arbinger Institute, known for "Leadership and Self-Deception," authored this concept. The pyramid consists of six levels:

  1. Get out of the box or improve your way of being.
  2. Build relationships with others who have influence.
  3. Build the relationship with your teenager.
  4. Listen and learn.
  5. Teach and communicate.
  6. Correct when things go wrong.

The three principles of this pyramid are:

  1. Spend more time at the foundation.
  2. The solution to one level is always at least one level lower.
  3. Effectiveness at every level depends on the lowest level, your way of being.

Julia emphasizes the importance of starting with self-improvement (level 1) and shares her personal journey in discovering this foundational change. She advises parents to focus on their well-being, self-care, and personal growth.

We discuss the significance of building relationships with people who influence your teen, including their friends' families. They recommend inviting your teen's friends over to your house and being supportive of their connections. By creating a welcoming environment, you can better understand your teenager's world and establish trust.
