S9 E2: Gena Rose Bruce

It's a great privilege to have conversations like I do with so many talented and amazing humans, each of whom is making their mark through their music and other creative projects.

Today's conversation is one of those.

Gena Rose Bruce is a phenomenally talented Melbourne-based artist who has just released her sophomore album Deep Is The Way. The title track written and performed with Bill Callahan will attract lots of attention – and rightly so, because it is truly beautiful piece of work - but the entire 11 tracks are sublime. There’s this beauty and curiosity within the tension, it makes me feel like I want to go back to somewhere I’ve never been to, makes me think of the landscapes of long road trips where you can be at one with your thoughts by just immersing yourself. 

What I really love is that the record demands patience, something that is a pretty scare resource these days.


We had a really deep and engaging conversation about what she's been learning about herself, getting out of comfort zones, self belief, what success mean, the benefits of about collaborations, the power of nature, perfectionism, instinct, uncertainty and resilience. Gena has such an instinctive and organic outlook on life.
