He experienced a wonderful childhood growing up with hardworking parents that shaped his determination to be successful. Don Martin believes that everyone is special in their own way. He can connect with people on all levels, no matter their age, race, or religion. He sees humanity in everyone, which allows him to bond with anyone.

Black Man White Industry tells the story of Don Martin, the only Black man in the United States to form his own textile corporation. This story is about a young Black man who enters an industry by accident in 1975, straight out of high school, and goes on to break all barriers. It's a riveting account of a Black man bonding with his white counterparts in the menswear textile business. In addition, it details the history of men's tailored clothing and how the industry was in its golden years. This includes stories about many influential people who shaped an entire industry past and present, and how Don did business with practically every designer label imaginable. The book has many twists and turns that will take you on a journey through race relations, politics, marketing, and tremendous adversity.
