We often are given the impression that Jesus was the innocent victim of corrupt religious authority and political intrigue. That is wrong. He went to Jerusalem with the express purpose of being arrested, tried, convicted and crucified; and on the third day he would rise from the dead. He is in complete control of events, from his entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday through his resurrection on Easter morning.
