In this episode, Steve’s hunting buddy Gordie Schroeder of Oklawaha, Florida occupies the guest chair for a good conversation on all things Plott. Like Steve, Gordie prefers the brindle dogs and has had remarkable success in major UKC Nite Hunt competition with a Plott female named Bayou Banana. Nana has made her presence known in the winner’s circle at the Florida State Championship, the Georgia State Championship, Autumn Oaks, the UKC World Championship and as the three-night opposite-sex winner at the National Plott Hound Association’s annual Plott Days.
Steve and Gordie each drive fifty miles to meet at a favorite hunting spot, a privately owned ranch in central Florida. In this episode, the friends talk about those hunts with Nana, Ole Hoss and with their longtime mutual friend Bob Frazier, a snowbird from Ohio.
The Plott breed is the smallest in number of the originally-recognized UKC coonhound breeds but though small in number, the Plott fraternity is tightly-knit and doubly-proud when a Plott dog, regardless of the owner, makes the news.
Having a Plott fancier as the host should warn listeners that a fair amount of Plott-related content will be aired from time to time. This one is especially for Plott enthusiasts but will appeal to anyone that loves tree dogs and perhaps are curious about the mysterious breed coon and big game hunters know as the Plott.
