EP 129: Gone to the Dogs with Monty Gusse

In this episode Steve is joined by a veteran competition-hunter who, among other significant wins including those at UKC Treeing Walker Days, placed third in the 2019 UKC World Championship.  Despite his prowess in competition, our guest is evolving, as most hunters do with age, into a serious breeder and pleasure hunter with a dog-related commercial enterprise or two thrown in for good measure.  This is a broad-reaching conversation on the hounds and the hunts of yesterday and today, enjoyed by two coon hunters as they talk about as many aspects of the sport as can possibly be crammed into a two-hour episode. 

At age 55, Monte Gusse of Fenton, Ill., has had more than his share of top hounds and has hunted with as many good ones through the years as any serious coon hunter can claim.  The idea for this episode came to fruition when Steve decided there was a lot more he wanted to know about Gusse, and by golly, he got what he was hoping for.  This one is a little longer than usual but worth every minute of your time.  Enjoy.
