President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Pete Hegseth, a Fox News host and Army veteran, to serve as the next Secretary of Defense. Hegseth, 44, has a military background, having served as an infantry officer in the National Guard and deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan, where he was awarded two Bronze Star medals. He joined Fox News as a contributor in 2014 and currently co-hosts 'Fox and Friends Weekend' and hosts for Fox Nation. Hegseth has also authored several books, including 'The War on Warriors,' which criticizes what he sees as leftist betrayal of the military. Trump praised Hegseth as 'tough, smart and a true believer in America First,' stating that with Hegseth at the helm, 'America's enemies are on notice - Our Military will be Great Again, and America will Never Back Down.' Hegseth was previously considered for the position of Secretary of Veterans Affairs during Trump's first administration but was not selected. His nomination comes alongside other potential national security appointments, including Marco Rubio for Secretary of State and John Ratcliffe for CIA Director.
