Today, November 5, 2024, marks the day of the U.S. presidential election, where voters will decide between former President Donald Trump and current Vice President Kamala Harris. The election is highly competitive, with the latest polls showing Harris slightly ahead nationally but Trump leading in some key swing states. Both candidates have been actively campaigning in battleground states, with Harris focusing on Pennsylvania and Trump visiting North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and ending his campaign in Michigan.

Over 80 million Americans have already voted early, but millions more are expected to cast their votes on Election Day. In some states, voters who missed the advance registration deadlines can still register and vote through same-day registration, a process available in nearly half of the states and the District of Columbia.

Key issues include the tight race in Pennsylvania, where both candidates are deadlocked, and the impact of early voting and same-day registration on voter turnout. There have also been concerns about election security, with incidents such as a Georgia poll worker arrested for allegedly mailing a bomb threat to election officials and Russian interference involving a manufactured video claiming election fraud in Arizona.

Additionally, states like California have implemented various voting measures, including vote-by-mail ballots and early in-person voting, to facilitate the voting process.

The election also includes other significant races, such as 34 Senate seats, all 435 House of Representatives seats, and gubernatorial elections in 11 states, as well as various ballot measures.
