The Smurl Haunting took place in West Pittston, Pennsylvania, during the 1970s and 1980s. The Smurl family reported years of terrifying disturbances inside their duplex home, including foul smells, pounding walls, shadowy figures, levitating furniture, and even physical assaults. After living with the phenomena for more than a decade, they sought help from famed demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren, who declared that a powerful demonic presence was responsible. Skeptics, however, argued the events could be explained by faulty plumbing, stress, or even fabrication. Whether true haunting or hysteria, the Smurl case remains one of America’s most unsettling and controversial paranormal stories.
