How to Keep Peace with our Parents

What if “Honor your father and mother” is the one commandment you can’t fully fulfill in your lifetime? Not because it ends, but because your parents won’t always be here.

This commandment, the only one with a promise—“that your days may be long”—offers timeless guidance for relationships. Honor means valuing and respecting; dishonor devalues and criticizes. In a culture that often mocks and shames, God calls us to choose honor through our words, actions, and attitudes.

Honor your parents by accepting their imperfections, appreciating their sacrifices, affirming their strengths, and standing by them when they need you most. Even Jesus, on the cross, cared for His mother—showing us the importance of this command.
