In our brand-new Black History Month Special, we are exploring the lives and legacies of two Black American women artists: Edmonia Lewis and Faith Ringgold.
The parallels between their contexts and their content are significant: both imbued political and social commentary into their (often) figurative artworks across their lifetimes, both grew up in artistic environments and who lived through massive changes in said contexts and each benefitted (stylistically) from their travels abroad.
