When I finally realized that weight loss was the product of healing from trauma, it freed me from the pressure to try. I didn't need to lose weight, I needed to forgive my dad, I needed to forgive my rapist, I needed to forgive my roommate who told me my assault was my fault. I needed forgiveness.
What seed could you be holding onto that is keeping you from stepping into freedom from gluttony or disordered eating? How can you find the strength to get on your knees and ask God to reveal your hurt to you?
I was reading 'Breaking Free' by Beth Moore in 2017 when the sights and sounds from the night of my assault came roaring back. I'd started the book in an effort to forgive my dad, who I hadn't spoken to in 8 years. It set the tone for the journey I would go on the next two years; from my brother getting shot, to seeing my dad for the first time, to my infertility journey.
Psalm 139: 23-24 says, 'Search me God and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.' Will you make this your prayer today? Let's dig up the seeds that are keeping us slave to food and diets and obsessing about our bodies. You are fearfully and wonderfully made; you were bought at a price and the word tells us to "honor God with our bodies."
Will you lean into this prayer today?
Are you sick of trying diet after diet and NOT losing weight?
Hey there friend, I'm Lindy Schlabach, Christian Fitness & Nutrition Coach. I gained 100 pounds in my late twenties and struggled for years to get it off. Seven years ago, I found a basic system that worked and has helped me lose 90 of those pounds. I’ve been working with women in online fitness and nutrition ever since to break chains of diet culture, embrace their bodies and fueling instead of dieting.
