Teaching is a hard profession, so any little thing that can make a teacher’s life just that little bit better is worth its weight in gold! In this episode, I talk about the little life hacks that I have used as a teacher to help save me time and help me provide better support for my students in lessons, so that your day to day teaching life can also be made just that little bit easier.

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • Number 1 - Mark and give feedback during the lesson - you and your TAs should always be armed with a pen!
  • Number 2 - Provide feedback to self-conscious students through comments on their Google doc
  • Number 3 - Get students to do as much as possible for you
  • Number 4 - Learn and use google shortcuts
  • Number 5 - Ask your students to hand their books in open
  • Number 6 - Don't reinvent the wheel
  • Number 7 - Use sticky notes in your planner
  • Number 8 - Use a whiteboard marker to go over the permanent marker
  • Number 9 - Use a little spray bottle filled with water and a cloth to clean the board.
  • Number 10- Attach a pen to your lanyard
  • Number 11 - Have a small sanitiser attached to your lanyard
  • Number 12 - Print visuals and laminate them and attach them to your lanyard. Do the same for symbols for your board: months, days of the week, the weather

BEST MOMENTS:

“Mark as much as you can during the lesson.”

“They get that instant feedback there and then”.

“Get students to do as much as possible for you”.

“Hole punching worksheets, stapling, cutting and gluing things in. These are really important life skills.”

“Ask your students to hand their books in open to the new piece of work. This will save you hours.”

“Don’t reinvent the wheel.”

“Pens to us are like gold dust. We hate lending out our pen.”

“Attach visuals to your lanyard to support your students in your lessons and to make it a lot easier for you to communicate effectively with them”.
