Mornings are hard on IBS. Try this...

Prevent, prepare, protect! Mornings are rough on people with IBS, but these three steps can help

I hate mornings. That is the worst time of day for my IBS, and I know I'm not alone here.

Why are mornings so awful for so many people?

Lots of reasons...When you wake up in the morning, so does your gut.

Your stomach is completely empty.

You're in a rush to get out the door, and stressed.

You're tired because you haven't gotten enough sleep.

You're afraid to eat breakfast in case that makes things worse.

The end result is that mornings often trigger IBS flares. Try these three steps to help:

1. Prevent. It's easier to prevent IBS symptoms in the first place than stop them in their tracks. Take a peppermint oil capsule on an empty stomach, last thing at night before bed, to head off morning problems in the first place.

2. Prepare. Be ready to stop symptoms quickly if you need to. Before bed, brew yourself a super duper strong cup of peppermint, fennel, or other IBS-helpful herbal tea. Leave the tea in the cup, leave the cup at your bedside, and let it brew all night long. The moment you wake up in the morning start sipping your tea. Prepare the night before to keep your IBS stable without even getting out of bed.

3. Protect. Start your day with foods that will keep your gut calm and protect you from flares throughout the morning. Make breakfast the safest meal of the day.

You are not alone.
