Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric condition characterized by symptoms of hyperarousal and hypervigilance.
Increasing research on the gut-brain axis has drawn links between PTSD and IBS.
The gut–brain axis, a two-way communication path in your body, lets the central nervous system influence gastrointestinal function.
The first meta-analysis of this association, in the Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, found that PTSD is associated with an increased likelihood of IBS.
