 A traumatic event is defined as one that poses a threat of serious injury or death to oneself or others, and elicits feelings of intense fear, helplessness, or horror. Traumatic events are by their nature unexpected and uncontrollable. Traumatic events are by their nature unexpected and uncontrollable.  Post Traumatic Growth involves the development of new knowledge, abilities, relationships or hope and confidence following a traumatic stressor in addition to recovering successfully from acute stress reactions. Religion and spirituality may play an important and complex role in the relationship between post traumatic growth and forgiveness. The personal importance of religion has been shown to mediate the relationship between forgiveness and post traumatic growth (Schultz et al., 2010) and forgiveness interventions have facilitated post traumatic growth in religion and spirituality (Luskin, Ginzburg, & Thoresen, 2005; Rye & Pargament, 2002).
