Integrating Back into the Family After Recovery

The fact that your loved one has committed to a recovery program can be a huge sigh of relief, but that doesn’t mean that everything is fixed and the addict is going to come out ready to focus on making amends. But in reality, newly sober loved ones have a really difficult time turning their attention back around to the family. 

As a supportive family member, you may have certain expectations about what this newly recovered addict or alcoholic is going to be able to do. But in fact, the idea is they need to focus on themselves and we need to slowly get back into the integration of how a family system is going to work and the changes that occur.
