Our summer of podcasting comes to an end with this 682nd episode about The Martian, where we talk about Matt Damon having a years-long space adventure alone on the red planet. He's left behind by his crew and has to use his wits & botany talent to survive until they can come back for him...with plenty of help from the geniuses at NASA back on Earth. The optimism in Andy Weir's novel translates to the rare cheery entry in Ridley Scott's filmography. Damon's charm and sense of humour are a huge part of what made that possible in a science fiction film that's actually pretty close to science fact. So DO NOT fire up that disco music on the 4th planet, but DO like them potatoes as you devour our ep about The Martian.
