The Power of Private Prayer!

The Act of Uniformity 1662 in England prescribed the form of public prayers and was a massive clampdown on religious and political life. Thomas Brooks and over 2,000 clergymen refused to take the oath and were expelled from the Church of England in what became known as the Great Ejection of 1662. Against the backdrop of massive overreach by the Crown, Brooks wrote the words of today's reading.
