Google Employees Demand Answers to Job Insecurity Concerns

Over 1,300 Google employees petitioned for job security amidst recent layoffs. The petition, signed by 1,343 workers, seeks minimum severance packages starting at 16 weeks of salary plus two additional weeks for each year of service, and requests buyouts before layoffs. Employees criticize the Googler Reviews and Development system for promoting rating quotas instead of individual performance assessments. In recent earnings, Google reported a 13% revenue increase in Google Services and a 35% rise in Google Cloud revenue, even as the CFO acknowledged potential cost-cutting opportunities. In 2024, the tech industry saw over 152,000 layoffs across 546 companies.
