This week we jump to a future when sports are no longer categorised simply into "men" and "women". I refer to this as "gender" as that's the common label, but more technically, it is sexual biology that is important, and we know that this expresses itself on a spectrum rather than just in two big categories.
We need to find a way to express this in sporting categories too, like we do with weight classes in some sports or physical ability at the Paralympics. There are no simple and obvious solutions, but I imagine a future where we have gone through the tough culture wars on this issue and found something that works.
I hope you can imagine that too.
