There are many young couples showing up, daily, to the temple, to offer sacrifices for their neborn babies. One of the priests sees a couple (Mary and Joseph) with an external image that stated obviously they could not afford much but two birds instead of a lamb and a dove for a sacrifice. Regardless, his job, as a priest, is not to judge people by outward appearance. Surprisingly, a psalm is stated by another worshiper, an older man named Simeon, which the priest takes a while to understand.
Once he finally recognizes it, he understands that, it is not through worldly glory - riches and splendor, visible power - that God does his work; his work happens through his word alone. Through humble sinners, like priests and pastors, serving other sinners. Join us in Luke 2 verses 22-38 as we discuss the power of God's word at work.
