From July 13–20, 2025, Royal Portrush hosts the 153rd Open Championship. Only the third Open at this iconic Northern Irish venue, it promises a thrilling test of skill, emotion, and legacy.
After a memorable 2019—Shane Lowry’s win and Rory McIlroy’s early exit—156 of the world’s best return to the Dunluce Links. Narrow fairways, deep pot bunkers, and unpredictable winds await. Format: 72 holes, cut after Round 2, with a three-hole playoff if needed.
McIlroy, now a Masters champion, seeks redemption at home. His 2019 collapse still lingers—but so does his 61 here at age 16.
Lowry returns to the scene of his Open triumph, backed by elite links skills.
Schauffele, the defending champion, is sharp around the greens—ideal for Portrush's 57 bunkers.
Scheffler, Fleetwood, Thomas, and underdogs like Gotterup and Penge round out a diverse and dangerous field.
Portrush is pure links: 7,381 yards, 24 acres of fairway, 5,700 sq ft greens.Key holes:
16th “Calamity Corner” – brutal par-3
7th & 8th – modern classics
5th “White Rocks” – short but treacherous
Weather forecast: calm early, windier Saturday/Sunday. Expect chaos.
