The week of June 5–8 delivered high drama across the professional golf world. Key players made statements, momentum shifted, and performances set the stage for the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club.

At the RBC Canadian Open, New Zealand’s Ryan Fox claimed a thrilling playoff win over Sam Burns. It was Fox’s second victory of the season, and his world ranking jumped from No. 75 to No. 32. The highlight: a 259-yard 3-wood to ten feet, which Fox called “the best shot I’ve ever hit.” This earned him an automatic U.S. Open spot and serious momentum heading to Oakmont.

Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy missed the cut in windy conditions. His recent form remains unpredictable—described as a “mixed bag”—but he remains a name to watch.

On the DP World Tour, Connor Syme of Scotland earned his first career win at the KLM Open. Overcoming tough weather, he held off Joakim Lagergren with a final score of −11.

The LPGA Tour saw Jennifer Kupcho return to form with a one-shot win at the ShopRite Classic. It was her first title since 2022, thanks to a brilliant closing stretch.

LIV Golf Virginia featured a heavyweight battle between Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm, both finishing two rounds at −7. DeChambeau, the defending U.S. Open champion, showed he’s ready to go again. Rahm’s resurgence also sent a strong message: he’s back in the mix.

All of this leads into the 125th U.S. Open at Oakmont (June 12–15). The course is legendary—and punishing.

Oakmont Setup:

  • Par 70, approx. 7,300 yards

  • Ultra-narrow fairways

  • Thick rough

  • Lightning-fast greens

  • Iconic Church Pew Bunker

Weather Forecast:

  • Thu: Sunny, 32°C

  • Fri: Hot, storms possible, 33°C

  • Sat: Clear, 33°C

  • Sun: Cooler, potential morning storms, 27°C

Rain interruptions are possible Friday and Sunday. Combined with the brutal course, this could be the toughest test of the year.

Top Contenders:

  • Scottie Scheffler (+335): World No. 1. Fresh off a major win. Almost untouchable from tee to green.

  • Bryson DeChambeau (+900): Powerful, focused, and defending champion. His game suits Oakmont.

  • Rory McIlroy (+600): Inconsistent form, but always a threat.

  • Jon Rahm (+1200): Form peaking at the right time. LIV performance proves it.

  • Brooks Koepka (+1300): Five-time major winner. Built for this kind of battle.

  • Ryan Fox: Not a headliner but surging with confidence. His clutch performance in Canada proves he belongs.

  • Phil Mickelson: Possibly his last U.S. Open. While the course may not suit him, the story matters.

  • Dark Horses: Hatton, Smith, Spieth, Straka, Lowry. Capable of a surprise.

The past week delivered breakthroughs and emotion. Now, Oakmont promises pressure, precision—and history.
