Today, I, Henrik Jentsch, Director of the SFT Golf Academy 360° Powered by Sportsbox, am excited to present a revolutionary concept: Golf Swing Archetypes.

Golf instruction should not follow a one-size-fits-all model. Each golfer is biomechanically unique, which directly influences how they move in the swing. I’ve identified nine swing profiles, focusing on hip movement—specifically the Sway Gap, which shows how hips move relative to a central line during the backswing:

  • Rear Post: hips move behind the line.

  • Front Post: hips move ahead of the line.

  • Center Post: hips remain balanced.

These archetypes affect how Ground Forces—the "engine" of the swing—are used. Rear-post players are like rear-wheel drive cars, front-post like front-wheel drive, and center-post like all-wheel drive.

Many golfers make the mistake of imitating others with different biomechanics, which can harm performance and increase injury risk. Understanding your personal swing archetype is like having a custom manual for your swing, helping you work with your body instead of against it.

  • Clarifies conflicting swing advice.

  • Debunks the myth of a “perfect” swing for everyone.

  • Shows how to harness Ground Forces effectively.

  • Encourages natural movement patterns.

  • Improves consistency and performance.

  • Challenges traditional myths like "keep your head down" and fixed ball positions.

For example, while "keep your head down" is common advice, maintaining a stable spine angle is more important. Depending on your archetype, head movement will vary. Ball position should also adapt: front-post players may place the ball forward, while rear-post players might prefer it further back.

You don’t need fancy technology. Assessments can be done at home:

  • Mimic your swing and observe hip movement.

  • Feel weight shifts.

  • Notice natural body rotation.

Once you identify your archetype, you can tailor drills and exercises to your strengths:

  • Rear-post players: focus on lateral movement and strong trail-leg push-off.

  • Front-post players: strengthen lead leg and develop early vertical force.

  • Center-post players: balance both for controlled energy transfer.

Rather than forcing a generic swing model, create a personalized roadmap that maximizes your strengths and consistency.

This approach redefines golf instruction, focusing not on a "perfect" swing, but on the most effective swing for you.

Trust your body, embrace your natural swing, and unlock a more consistent, powerful, and successful game.
