The 107th PGA Championship begins today, May 15, 2025, at the iconic Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. Anticipation is high as 156 of the world’s best players – including 99 of the current top 100 – prepare to tackle one of the most demanding courses in major championship golf. The par-71 layout is famous for its difficulty, especially the dramatic final stretch known as “The Green Mile.”

All eyes are on Rory McIlroy, fresh off his Masters win and having completed the career Grand Slam. He returns to one of his favorite venues, where he’s already won four times. Entering the week with confidence and clarity, McIlroy said: “Now that I’ve completed the Grand Slam, everything else is just a bonus.” He tees off today in a headline group alongside World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and defending PGA Champion Xander Schauffele.

Other top contenders include Jordan Spieth, still chasing his own career Grand Slam, and Bryson DeChambeau, who won the 2024 U.S. Open in North Carolina and thrives in softer course conditions. After heavy rains earlier this week, Quail Hollow is playing soft and long, with receptive greens favoring aggressive players and powerful ball strikers.

Today’s weather is expected to be warm and dry, around 28°C (82°F) with light winds — ideal conditions for a strong start. However, weekend forecasts show possible thunderstorms and gusty winds on Saturday, making moving day potentially unpredictable. Calm weather is expected to return on Sunday.

There’s already been one notable withdrawal: Sahith Theegala has pulled out due to a neck injury. Tiger Woods is also absent as he continues his rehabilitation.

Global broadcast coverage is extensive. ESPN+ streams featured groups and holes from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time (12:00–24:00 CEST), with ESPN taking over the main broadcast from 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. (18:00–1:00 CEST). CBS Sports Network and Paramount+ will offer additional coverage, and SiriusXM will provide live radio throughout the day. In Germany and the UK, Sky Sport will air the tournament live beginning this afternoon.

With a world-class field, challenging course setup, and shifting weather conditions, this year’s PGA Championship promises a dramatic and thrilling week of golf. Quail Hollow is ready — and the entire golf world is watching.
