Charlotte, North Carolina – Quail Hollow Club

The 107th PGA Championship returns from May 15–18, 2025, to the iconic Quail Hollow Club, one of the most demanding and dramatic venues in major championship golf. Known for its tight fairways, lightning-fast greens, and the infamous finishing stretch dubbed “The Green Mile,” this par-71 course promises to deliver four days of intense competition and high drama.

After heavy rainfall earlier in the week forced officials to close the course to spectators on Monday, conditions have significantly improved. Thanks to outstanding work by the grounds crew, the course is now tournament-ready. Thursday’s forecast calls for warm, sunny weather—around 82°F (28°C)—with only a minimal chance of rain.

The recent storms have left the fairways soft, which may benefit long hitters, while the greens remain firm and fast. This combination will challenge players to adapt their strategies—balancing aggressive drives with precise approach shots and expert putting.

The field is stacked with elite talent, headlined by Rory McIlroy, the reigning Masters champion. McIlroy has won multiple times at Quail Hollow and enters with confidence and course familiarity—two key advantages this week.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the statistical favorite, bringing exceptional ball-striking and consistency. His calm under pressure and all-around game make him one to watch.

Bryson DeChambeau, always dangerous on soft courses, referred to Quail Hollow as a “bomber’s paradise”, while Justin Thomas, who won the PGA Championship here in 2017, stated, “I just pull the driver and let it rip—long and straight.”

Defending champion Xander Schauffele is quietly confident, while young amateur Jackson Cole, just 20 years old, brings fresh energy and fearless play to the major stage.

Two key players have withdrawn:

  • Justin Rose due to a viral illness (also missed last week’s Truist Championship)

  • Sahith Theegala for personal reasons (details undisclosed)

Their absence creates space for alternates like Joel Dahmen and Adam Schenk to step up.

a challenging golf course, top-tier talent, shifting conditions, and sky-high expectations. With Quail Hollow’s layout favoring both power and precision, and recent weather adding complexity, the stage is set for a thrilling major.
