Summary of the play, written by Nell Benjamin:
The prestigious Explorers Club in London 1879 is in crisis. The Acting President wants to admit a woman and the bartender is terrible. True, this female candidate is brilliant, beautiful and has discovered a legendary Lost City, but the decision to let in a woman could shake the very foundations of the British Empire, and how do you make such a decision without a decent drink?
A fast-paced farce about science, ego, passion and romance, the Explorers Club is quick witted, vibrant and energetic. The writing channels elements of ‘Blackadder’, twisting historic realism with absolute fantasy. This play has a beating, silly heart that audiences are sure to love.
