Contenders/To be in Contention
This week's football expression is the noun 'contenders' which describes a group of teams that are in with a chance of winning something, for example, a game or a competition. The phrase 'to be in contention' is also used to describe this situation - Napoli are in contention to win the Serie A title this season, which means that Napoli have a good chance of winning the Italian league.
