Fi: Talvisen pimeyden keskellä suuri perhe koti täytti lämpimällä valolla.
En: In the midst of the winter darkness, the large family home was filled with warm light.

Fi: Joulu oli takana, mutta tänä iltana vietettiin Loppiaista.
En: Christmas was behind them, but tonight they were celebrating Loppiainen.

Fi: Lumi peitti kuuset ja teki maisemasta satumaisen.
En: Snow covered the spruces and made the landscape like a fairy tale.

Fi: Sisällä kynttilät loivat pehmeää valoaan, kun perhe kokoontui ison ruokapöydän ympärille.
En: Inside, candles cast their soft glow as the family gathered around the large dining table.

Fi: Perinteiset suomalaiset ruokalajit odottivat herkuttelua.

En: She had noticed Aatto's pale expression and stiff movements.

Fi: Ei ollut vaikeaa päätellä, että jokin vaivasi hänen veljeään.
En: It wasn't difficult to deduce that something was bothering her brother.

Fi: Eevi lähestyi Aattoa lempeästi ja aloitti keskustelun yleisistä asioista.
En: Eevi approached Aatto gently and started a conversation about general topics.

Fi: Kun muut olivat riittävän uppoutuneita omiin keskusteluihinsa, Eevi kysyi hiljaa: "Miten voit, Aatto?"
En: When others were sufficiently engrossed in their own discussions, Eevi quietly asked, "How are you, Aatto?"

Fi: Aatto yritti hymyillä.
En: Aatto tried to smile.

Fi: "Voin hyvin, Eevi.
En: "I'm fine, Eevi.

Fi: Tänään on tärkeä päivä, en halua pilata sitä."
En: Today is an important day, I don't want to ruin it."

Fi: "Minä huomaan, että jokin on vikana", Eevi vastasi.
En: "I can see that something is wrong," Eevi replied.

Fi: "Oletko varma, ettei tarvitse huolehtia?"
En: "Are you sure there's no need to worry?"

Fi: Aatto epäröi hetken.
En: Aatto hesitated for a moment.

Fi: Hän ei voinut enää peittää kipua, joka tuntui liikkuessaan.
En: He could no longer hide the pain that he felt when he moved.

Fi: "No... ehkä... vähän kivistää", hän myönsi lopulta.
En: "Well... maybe... it aches a little," he finally admitted.
