Story Transcript:

En: On the beach of Saaremaa, a winter sunset paints the sky orange and purple.

Et: Tuul on jäine, kuid lõkke soojus toob kogunenud perele hubasust.
En: The wind is icy, but the warmth of the bonfire brings coziness to the gathered family.

Et: Täna tähistatakse mitteametlikult Eesti Vabariigi aastapäeva.
En: Today, the unofficial celebration of Eesti Vabariigi aastapäev takes place.

Et: Kalev, pere vanim vend, seisab lõkke ääres.
En: Kalev, the oldest brother in the family, stands by the fire.

En: His gaze slips to Maarja, his dreamy younger sister.

Et: Maarja tundub hajevil – on selge, et midagi vaevab teda.
En: Maarja seems distracted – it is clear that something is troubling her.

En: Kalev plans to keep the evening calm and full of tradition.

En: He wishes for Maarja to talk about her worries but doesn't want to disturb the festive atmosphere.

Et: "Räägime lugusid," pakub Kalev naeratades.
En: "Let's tell stories," suggests Kalev with a smile.

En: Reena, their cousin, who is skeptical about traditions, emerges: "Why?

Et: Miks me teeme alati samu asju?
En: Why do we always do the same things?

Et: Otsime tõde, mitte lihtsalt jätkame vana rada."
En: Let's seek the truth, not just continue the old path."

Et: Ja just siis ütleb Maarja endamisi nuuksudes: "Kui ma vaid julgeksin…" Kalev noogutab julgustavalt, kuid ei sunni teda rääkima.
En: And just then, Maarja says to herself, sobbing: "If only I dared..." Kalev nods encouragingly but doesn't force her to speak.

Et: Päike langeb aina madalamale, meri sosistab salapärases keeles.
En: The sun falls lower, the sea whispers in a mysterious language.

En: Maarja rises and steps closer to the bonfire, hesitant but determined.

Et: "Mul on saladus," alustab ta häbelikult.
En: "I have a secret," she begins shyly.

Et: "See on seotud meie esivanematega.
En: "It's related to our ancestors.

En: Our family has an old story that I didn't know until now.

Et: Me uskusime, et ükskord põles siin rannas midagi olulist."
En: We believed that something important once burned here on this beach."

Et: Ta tõmbab taskust vana medali, mille peal on kummalised märgid.
En: She pulls out an old medal from her pocket, with strange symbols on it.

En: Reena smirks and asks, "So, are we going to change tradition because of this secret?"

Et: Kalev mõtleb hetke.
En: Kalev thinks for a moment.

En: He feels that family bonds and their shared story are more important than an old medal.

Et: "Meie traditsioonid peavad elama.
En: "Our traditions must live on.

Et: Muudame...
