Cs: Jiri seděl u okna v malém domku na moravském venkově.
En: Jiri sat by the window in the small house in the Moravian countryside.

Cs: Venku byla pravá zima, krajina pokrytá silnou sněhovou přikrývkou.
En: Outside, it was true winter, the landscape covered with a thick blanket of snow.

Cs: Byl to klidný pohled, ale Jiriho trápil.
En: It was a peaceful view, yet it troubled Jiri.

Cs: Bolí ho noha, hranice světa, kterou nyní nemohl překročit.
En: His leg hurt, a boundary of the world he could not cross now.

Cs: Jiri byl středního věku, muž zvyklý pracovat na farmě od úsvitu do soumraku.

En: But he remembered the vast snowy plains in front of the house.

Cs: Bylo to jako neprobádané území.
En: It was like uncharted territory.

Cs: Rozhodl se.
En: He decided.

Cs: "Půjdu do stodoly," řekl najednou.
En: "I will go to the barn," he said suddenly.

Cs: Marta a Lukas se na sebe podívali.
En: Marta and Lukas looked at each other.

Cs: Věděli, že Jiri je tvrdohlavý.
En: They knew Jiri was stubborn.

Cs: Ale přesto Marta jemně odpověděla: "Buď opatrný, Jiri.
