Nl: De lucht boven Giethoorn was grijs en zwaar, terwijl zachte sneeuwvlokken uit de wolken vielen en het dorp bedekten met een dunne witte laag.
En: The sky above Giethoorn was gray and heavy, while soft snowflakes fell from the clouds and covered the village with a thin white layer.

Nl: Het was winter, en de rust in het dorp gaf het gevoel van een prentkaart.
En: It was winter, and the quiet in the village gave the feeling of a postcard.

Nl: Maar achter de glazen ramen van een klein huisje was geen rust te vinden.
En: But behind the glass windows of a small cottage, no peace was to be found.

Nl: Bram lag zwetend en rillend in bed.
En: Bram lay sweating and shivering in bed.

Nl: Zijn koorts was hoog en zijn ademhaling zwaar.

En: Joris stood by the window.

Nl: Hij keek naar de sneeuw die steeds dikker op de grond viel.
En: He watched the snow falling ever thicker on the ground.

Nl: "Maar hoe ga je die vinden, Anouk?"
En: "But how will you find it, Anouk?"

Nl: vroeg hij bezorgd.
En: he asked worriedly.

Nl: "De moerassen zijn gevaarlijk, vooral nu."
En: "The marshes are dangerous, especially now."

Nl: "We hebben geen keuze, Joris.
En: "We have no choice, Joris.

Nl: Bram heeft het nodig," zei Anouk vastberaden.
En: Bram needs it," said Anouk resolutely.

Nl: "Jij moet hier blijven.
En: "You must stay here.

Nl: Zorg dat hij veilig is."
En: Make sure he is safe."

Nl: Joris knikte, al voelde hij zich machteloos.
En: Joris nodded, though he felt helpless.

Nl: Hij wilde Bram niet verliezen, zijn beste vriend.
En: He did not want to lose Bram, his best friend.

Nl: Maar hij wist dat Anouk de enige was die iets kon doen.
En: But he knew that Anouk was the only one who could do anything.

Nl: Dus vertrok Anouk.
En: So Anouk set off.

Nl: Ze trok haar warme jas aan, sloeg een sjaal om haar nek en ging de koude, besneeuwde wereld in.
En: She put on her warm coat, wrapped a scarf around her neck, and went into the cold, snowy world.

Nl: Haar laarzen crunchten in de sneeuw terwijl ze richting het moeras liep.
En: Her boots crunched in the snow as she headed for the marsh.

Nl: De lucht was ijskoud en haar adem maakte wolkjes, maar ze stopte niet.
En: The air was icy cold, and her breath made little clouds, but she did not stop.
