When we talk about relationships, romantic love often takes center stage. The search for a soulmate. Finding “the one”. But true friendships and family bonds are deep connections too, and just as important, especially in midlife.
This big truth hit me on a recent trip back to my hometown of Cleveland, where I stayed with my childhood best friend while taking care of my elderly mother. Between the bestie laughter, nostalgia, and endless conversations, I was reminded just how much our friendship bond has shaped us, grounded us, and sustained us through every stage of our lives.
It’s easy to get caught up in the idea that love only means romantic partnership and finding that one person you’re looking for to fill so many roles in your life. But we need to remind ourselves that the true-blue friendships we nurture and the family bonds we lean on are just as essential to our happiness, growth, and wellbeing.
In midlife, these connections become more powerful than ever before, because they offer the kind of support that can’t be replaced. In this episode, I’m sharing what my trip home taught me, and how we can all be more intentional about nurturing meaningful relationships in our lives.
