The Courage to Choose “Real” over Ideal in Life and Relationships with Dawni Angel

Dawni is a life coach who specializes in helping people align with their core values. She had a childhood filled with poverty and abuse, and yet she was a spiritual seeker from the time she was young and has always been interested in personal growth. She was trapped with the mindset of “this is the life I SHOULD” live by following her family tradition. We talk about the difference between what you inherited and then the world you can create. The goal is to break out of the inherited world to create the life your soul wants.

We also talk about the role of childhood trauma and how it affects us today. Dawni shared that she used to “justify” her choices by attaching them to a trauma response. The goal is to work through the trauma, own its impact, but not get defined by it or allow yourself to be run by it.

You will hear Dawni share about her “waking up” from the dream life she inherited. She had the look-good life on paper, was doing everything right, but was miserable. She hated the life she had created, so had to allow the dream to shatter. It took tremendous courage to leave, and Dawni shares how she initially tried to not hurt anyone, still look good, but after almost 5 years, she realized she could not break free in this way of still trying to please others. So she had choose herself and chose real over ideal.

Dawni Angel believes she was a weird kid. From a very young age she read everything she could get her hands on that talked about human behavior. According to neuroscientists, we are conscious of only about 5 percent of our cognitive activity, and Dawni's life’s obsession is to raise that 5 percent in herself and others. That way people can understand themselves deeply, thereby maximizing their strengths and ability to create consciously.
