Gospel: Matthew 24:42–51
We spend years planning for retirement, but how often do we prepare for eternal life? Jesus warns us: “Stay awake, for you do not know on which day your Lord will come.” Saint Augustine learned this lesson the hard way. Brilliant, but restless, he searched in false philosophies and worldly pleasures until the prayers of his mother, Monica, softened his heart. His restless years were not wasted: they became the soil of his holiness.
In this homily, preached at Saint Edward Catholic Church in Richard, Father Korey reminds us that readiness is not anxiety, but daily love and holiness. Restless hearts can be redeemed. Wasted years can be transformed. The question is: Will we remain awake when the Master comes?
