Tuesday of the Twenty-first Week in Ordinary Time (August 25, 2025).
The Gospel today (Matthew 23:23–26) has Jesus confronting the Pharisees with one of His sharpest images: “You strain out gnats, but swallow camels.” He warns against the comedy of hypocrisy—polishing the outside while the inside rots. Saint Paul offers the antidote in 1 Thessalonians 2:1–8: not showy religion, but a life poured out like a mother caring for her child.
“What camel are you trying to swallow while fussing over gnats?”
This homily was preached by Fr. Korey LaVergne at St. Edward Catholic Church in Richard, Louisiana.
