On this week's edition of Fabulous Film & Friends I talk with my friend Bob Gitzen about Stanley Kubrick’s classic 1968 sci fi existential meditation 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Robert “Bob” Gitzen who is a production sound mixer, sci fi lover and all-around deep thinker, in fact he was at one-point a seminarian. And he’s also an inventive genius who created and patented The Antser, which is a clever and ecological way to remove pesky ants from your pet’s food dishes or your home garbage containers. If you have ants around the house, go to theantser.com to take care of the problem quickly and naturally.

Coincidentally, I’ve known Bob since the year 2001 when we worked together on the little seen, much less understood Tilda Swinton sci fi indie, Teknolust.  I had only been in production less than a year at that point, but I was immediately impressed with Bob’s warmth, patience, good humor and clear passion for superlative audio quality. And even then, I had only worked with sound mixers who had maybe one of those qualities, and usually it wasn’t patience or good humor.

When I asked him to join the podcast I asked him which film he'd like to discuss and he immediately said, "My favorite film, 2001."

In this episode, we find out why it's both a favorite and an enduring classic.
