On this week’s episode of Fabulous Film & Friends, the regular crew is all back to dissect and probe the often-misunderstood genius of Jerry Lewis with his seminal 1963 masterwork, The Nutty Professor, which he co-wrote, directed and starred in alongside a very easy on the eyes, Stella Stevens.
Back once again for their invaluable insights on the matter are instructors and intellects in their own right: Roseanne Caputi, David Johnson DMD, and of course, funnyman GORDON ALEX ROBERTSON!
Before we explore the finer points: a synopsis!
The Nutty Professor slays us with the antics of the good-natured, introverted and superficially unattractive Professor Julius F. Kelp, who, in order to win the affections of his star pupil, Ms. Stella Purdy, concocts a potion that transforms him from a hunched over and bucked-tooth nerd, verging on the grotesque, into a handsome, unrelentingly self-confident, chain-smokin’ 60’s swingin’ ladies’ man named Buddy Love. Kelp and Buddy contend with their Jekyll and Hyde like tumultuous co-existence until they can no longer control it and finally at the big dance, Kelp, the university faculty and student body are face-to-face with the undeniable truth.
What is the meaning of it all?
