This week on Fabulous Film & Friends my wife is joining us at the roundtable to talk about the hilarious and whimsical Adam Sandler/Paul Thomas Anderson 2002 collaboration Punch Drunk Love.

Nyna Pais Caputi, my muse, my best friend, wife and soul mate, is gracing us for the first time with her presence because Punch Drunk Love was the first official date we went on after meeting in New York in person after a ten-month, transcontinental online courtship. We were pioneers in the whole internet dating scene and seeing this film was a fitting curly cue on our offbeat, unconventional romance.

Here again to join our little chat, is kid sister and kindred spirit to Elizabeth Egan, Roseanne Caputi likely relieved that she’s no longer the only female in the discussion.  And, of course, no Triple F podcast would be complete without the king of Salt Lake City pediatric dentists, David Johnson, DMD. Dave is also here to serve as an analyst of the authenticity in depicting Provo Utah Mattress selling scuzz.

Finally, back again by popular demand, in the official Paul Lynde Center Square is Actor, Voice Artist, photobug and funnyman, GORDON ALEX ROBERTSON!

Before we tear into it: a synopsis!

Punch Drunk Love tells the off-kilter tale of Barry Egan, a tightly-wound, insecure ball of white hot rage in a glowing blue suit who works as a lavatory supply salesman. Throughout the course of the story, Barry stumbles upon three key developments in his life: a personal scheme to garner a million airline miles from a loophole in a Healthy Choice food promotion, a spur-of-the -moment call to a phone sex operator that escalates into blackmail and violence, and most importantly, his true purpose and strength from the love of an impossibly sweet and understanding woman named Lena Lenard. Lena is friends with Elizabeth, one of Barry’s seven sisters, and we learn that, more than likely, Barry’s brood of older sisters have contributed to Barry’s seething anger by constantly berating him and hectoring him.

Be forewarned: this isn't some hipster love fest. There are a lot of varying opinions on this film from our panel.

Enjoy!
