The French have given us many beautiful things, from language to architecture. Little did the English know what was ahead when William the Conqueror crossed the Channel in 1066. France's influence didn't stop there. The impact on culture was felt throughout the European continent. Explorers and settlers packed it in their bags to the New World. But there is one cultural norm from the French that may come as a surprise.
