Welcome to my introductory podcast.  Let me tell you a little bit about myself.  I am an Advanced Public Information Officer (PIO), certified by FEMA.  I am currently the PIO for the Chesterfield Police Department and the East Madison Fire Territory both located in Madison County, IN approximately 34 miles north of Indianapolis, IN.  I have worked in public safety for over 30 years and served 26 years as a PIO.  I started my PIO career with Vermillion County Emergency Response, located in Clinton, IN.  Vermillion County was part of the joint FEMA - US Army's Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP).  I moved back home to Anderson, IN and was the PIO for the Madison County Emergency Management Agency.  In 2000, I joined the Chesterfield Police Department, and I am certified as a Field Training Officer, Law Enforcement Instructor, Bicycle Patrol and I currently serve as the Public Information Officer.  This led me to joining the Chesterfield-Union Township Fire Department (today it is the East Madison Fire Territory) as the PIO.  During my career as a PIO, I have seen technology evolve from facsimile machines, to e-mail, to social media and finally the public armed with live video.

As a Public Information Officer, I work daily to ensure the public is kept up to date on critical issues, safety awareness education and public safety concerns, so they can individually make decisions regarding the safety of themselves and their family. In addition, I enjoy working as a PIO and mentoring new PIOs.  Teaching and mentoring new public information officers is what has guided me to create "ThePioGuy".
