We discuss the case of Olympic track hopeful Sha’Carri Richardson, who was suspended from competition for one month after testing positive for marijuana, which is a banned substance under the US Anti-Doping Agency rules. Her suspension meant she missed the Olympics in Tokyo. A number of questions and complaints came up in articles and forums about this suspension. Two of the most frequent were: “How could a gifted Olympic athlete have her dreams shattered because she consumed a plant that is legal throughout most of the country? (It was legal in Oregon where she smoked it.) The second frequently asked question was, “Where’s the compassion for this woman who had to cope with the death of her birth mother?” Join us as we facilitate a discussion on this timely topic.
