91 | Guest: Emily Richter of EKR Interior Design

Emily Richter is the founder of EKR Interior Design. She has over 20 years of experience (22 to be exact) as a designer practicing in Washington DC and North Carolina. She is LEED and NCIDQ accredited. It is her breadth of experience that sets her apart. She has designed custom homes, hotels, office spaces, restaurants, remodels, and much more. She relies on facets from all of her experiences for every project with a focus on capturing the essence of each clients' wishes and taking them places they would not have imagined. Emily gravitates toward modern, minimal designs where color and texture create warm and livable spaces full of practical functionality.

Growing up in Eastern North Carolina the oldest of 4 with 3 younger brothers, Emily began life as an artist creating with anything she could get her hands on. She has always loved space planning and architecture. It has been her love of the process of creation and hunger for new (and historical) influence that drives her in her career. She took her love of art all the way through college, but ended with a BS in Interior Design from East Carolina University in 2002. In interior design she saw a practical application  for her creativity and a passion for helping others achieve their visions.

After college she spent 9 years in the DC area working for some of the nation's top firms such as OPX, before her move to Asheville in 2011. She started her company EKR Interior Design Inc. in 2014, officially incorporating in 2019. During her early years in Asheville she worked for a few local architects but felt a push to go it on her own. She's never looked back. Here she is a bespoke, one woman show that is dedicated to her craft, her clients, and living life to the fullest.

Outside of interior design she loves being outdoors, running, cycling, triathlon, tennis, traveling the world, and being with her partner Ralf and daughter Charlotte, 6.
