On today’s show, we are fortunate to have with us Arby’s franchise owner, Joe Brumit. Drawing from his 53 years of Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) experience, Joe shares with us his wisdom on grit, strategy, and company culture.
Back in 1968, young Joe forayed into the QSR industry working tables at the now-defunct, Burger Chef. When he reached college, he was made the assistant manager. However, some management issues cropped up at Burger Chef, and Joe was quick to see the writing on the wall.
And so, he moved over to Burger King where he quickly rose through the corporate ranks. In 1987, Joe again transitioned to Hardy’s.
In 1994, Joe got the opportunity to run a chain of 13 Arby’s restaurants as an operating partner. Joe and his team have since expanded their restaurant count to 61.
Joe shares why the QSR business is, in fact, a “people development” business. You will learn about his hiring criteria and how he has managed to assemble a dream team over the years. He also reveals his modus operandi, and why he prefers building stores from the ground up,
We also discuss how covid has forced the entire QSR industry into a complete reboot. And how Joe and his team managed to register growth in spite of this.
