01: Julie Zuercher | How My Business Multiplied Manifold In The Wake of COVID

In today’s show, Bill Gilliland interviews Julie Zuercher, Owner, Sparkle Janitorial Services. Julie markets and sells industrial cleaning supplies to schools, restaurants, and construction contractors among others.

We start this show with Julie sharing her interesting backstory. 

Julie got her degree in social work. But soon figured out it wasn’t the right fit for her. So, she switched tracks to work in the home heating diesel fuel business. Eventually, she even ended up buying a small stake in the company.

However, this was a cut-throat industry with extremely slim margins. 

Opportunity again beckoned when she received a client inquiry for cleaning chemicals for bus washing stations. Even though she had never in her life procured cleaning supplies before, Julie was quick to grasp this new business opportunity.

And then COVID happened. 

Demand for hand sanitizer sky-rocketed. And Julie went from being a solopreneur to hiring 8 employees in a single week.  Julie shares how she resorted to hiring out-of-work mechanics and high-school students to keep up with the insane demand.

Because of her ability to market, procure, and package cleaning supplies, today, Julie is a distributor for some of the biggest brands in the market.
