The Greek word "zateo" (set your hearts on) used by Paul reveals the intensity and diligence with which we should pursue heavenly mindedness. This isn't casual interest but the same determined seeking that Jesus demonstrates in finding lost sheep. Our natural tendency pulls us toward earthly concerns—making heavenly thinking not just a nice idea but a spiritual battlefield requiring intentional cultivation.

As C.S. Lewis observed, "Christians who did most for the present world were just those who thought most of the next." This paradox reveals that when we aim at heaven, earth comes naturally; when we aim only at earth, we lose both. The things that will truly last beyond this life are God Himself, His Word, and the souls of His people—not our possessions, achievements, or even our physical bodies.
