In August 1994, during the Obon festival, a strange mystery was puzzling people on Hachijou Island in Japan. The bones of seven unknown people were found in the furnace of a local crematorium, but their origin was unknown. The mystery gave rise to various theories and even ghost stories, with the number seven strongly associated.
